DBS checks for CDI members
One of the challenges of working as a private practitioner is obtaining a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check if you don’t have a sponsoring employer. Following member feedback, the CDI have established this service, whereby the CDI acts as sponsor, enabling members to obtain DBS checks and remove a barrier to applying for contracts.
The CDI has partnered with Complete Background Screening Ltd (CBS). CBS is a registered Umbrella Body to the Disclosure & Barring Service who are able to provide CDI members with access to DBS checks. Additionally, once the DBS check is complete members will be able to subscribe to the DBS Update Service, potentially negating the need for further DBS checks in the future.
We have worked with CBS to make the process as straightforward as possible. If you would like to undertake a DBS check, please email Cerys Conway, DBS Account Manager at CBS at [email protected] with:
- your full name
- email address
- job role
- CDI membership number
CBS will then create an online DBS form, will advise on how to validate your identity and make payment online via credit or debit card.
From 1st July 2025, changes to the DBS process mean that members have to either complete ID verification using a government-certified digital identity provider or in-person at the Post Office, both of which incur separate fees. CBS can advise on these options.
CBS charge £59 (inc. VAT) for an enhanced level DBS check and digital identity check. Additionally, you can subscribe to the DBS update service for £13 per annum.
These are CBS’s direct rates that the CDI is passing on to members.
