What is this Community of Practice all about?

Launched in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CDP community has rapidly grown to include over 1,600 CDI members working in all walks of career development. The community discusses a wide range of topics and members regularly pose questions and requests for help related to their areas of practice.

The Community affords members the opportunity to:

  • Contribute to discussions
  • Raise questions and get support on practical issues relating to careers work
  • Share career related news items of interest
  • Keep up to date with resources, training and events from the CDI
  • Post about goods, services and courses on the monthly #CareerCommercials day
  • Share good news stories in the monthly #CareersImpact event
  • Network with colleagues

Membership of the CDI community is part of the package of membership benefits - so you will need to be a CDI member to take part. We offer moderated and mediated discussions which avoid commercial bias and ensure that content complies with the CDI Code of Ethics.

How is the CoP managed?

The group is moderated by experienced Career Development Professionals and long-term CDI members Liz Reece and Dave Cordle. They support community members, liaise with the CDI team to answer queries and encourage the diverse and engaged discussion on the community.

It’s brilliant being involved with such a supportive community.

I love it! As a new member, it has given me information on resources and news events that I possibly wouldn't find elsewhere. Also, as a lot of my work is based around Facebook, it pops up in my news feed so I am more likely to see it rather than keep logging into the CDI website.

Love it. It feels warm, collaborative, and it’s a mine of useful information - things I want to know and things I didn’t know I wanted to know but do now! Thank you for moderating the page.

Highly skilled professionals, who care about what they do, all supporting each other. Love the resources Q&As and the titbits of advice!

Really useful information if you've newly qualified. Useful for information on sectors you're not currently working in. You can ask questions without feeling silly.

I love this group, the members are friendly, helpful and generous. It is welcoming and friendly, people are happy to help, advise and share their experience. Thank you everyone, you are amazing.

I love the collaboration. It really does feel like we are a community.

It’s gives me the chance to network, share and support others in the journey and most importantly it’s lots of fun.

Good quality questions. Often, (in real-time) drawn to a group because of a FB notification where you can't see the question and you waste time, but not in this group.
